BLOG:  DO YOU TRULY WANT IT?

Everyone has the potential to be successful, yet not everyone will reach their true success. Just like the acorn that could become a mighty oak tree, without the right soil and right nurturing over time, many acorns do not reach their full potential. It is the same for us. Decision, sustainability, right thought and staying power are some of the ingredients for success.

Most people will stay in the comfort zone of mediocrity and call it “good enough.”Why does this happen? In many ways we are all seduced into programmed mediocrity by our tribes. The following excerpt describes this well:

“Before I was born in this physical body, a whole society of storytellers was already here. The story was ongoing, and from their story I learned how to create my own. Storytellers who are here before us teach us how to be human.

First they tell us what we are—a boy or a girl—then they tell us who we are, and who we should or shouldn’t be. They teach us how to be a proper woman, a decent woman, a strong man, a brave man.

They give us a name, an identity, and they tell us the role that we are playing in their story. They prepare us to live in a human jungle, to compete with one another, to control one another, to impose our will, to fight against our own kind. Of course I believed what the storytellers told me. Why would I not believe them? They filled me with knowledge, and I used that knowledge to copy their style and create my art in a similar way.”      ~The Voice of Knowledge, Don Miguel Ruiz

There is a Law of Success so let’s explore some things necessary for success, assuming this is what your truly want. (Of course the definition of success will be different for each of us).

  • You must choose it first. Whatever your current circumstances you can advance if you choose to. The starting point therefore is your decision for success. The best chapter I’ve read so far on decision comes from Napoleon Hill’s quintessential book, “Think and Grow Rich.” If you haven’t read it lately I highly recommend it.

  • What does it look like for you? You must have a crystal clear vision of what this looks like for you. As Earl Nightingale said in the early 50’s, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” I love that definition! It must be something you are in love with so you get emotionally and totally in tune with it. This is because when you are progressively moving towards something, often you have many failures before things manifest in physical form so both staying power and movement is needed. At this point you do not know how you will reach your success; yet you know you will get there. You have a burning desire for your vision. You continue to course correct as you move forward to the next stage. Did you know that a rocket fails its way to the destination, off course most of the time? The professional athlete fails during practices much more than they succeed….failures and setbacks are inherent in the process.

  • Plan for your success. Success requires that you study, plan and take action. We will discuss this more next week.

For this week you can make a decision for your success by asking, “What is calling me to my true potential? “What is it that I truly desire?”

To You True Potential,
